| "Storm In A Teacup" by Sara Hayward is the current exhibition at Worcester Porcelain Museum, Severn St., Worcester, showing for the first time a suite of six etchings, entitled "The Worcester Etchings". Inspired by the intensely crosshatched, chiaroscuro still life etchings of seventeenth century Master printmaker Rembrandt van Rijn, these drypoint etchings were created in The Museum store, and use the sustainable method of saline copper sulphate on aluminium. With digital work on display also, the exhibition of over 40 pieces, seeks to encourage a debate about older, slow methods of representation (eg etching), versus new, fast methods (eg digital). After the exhibition finishes on June 22nd 2008, The Worcester Etchings will remain on display permanently at The Museum. The exhibition follows a ten month residency (funded by the Leverhulme Trust)where printmaker Sara Hayward set up a temporary etching studio in twentieth century gallery in The Museum. |

The Bottega del Tintoretto In 1986 a group of artists opened the Bottega del Tintoretto - a print workshop equipped with presses and tools recovered from old Venetian printshops - next door to the palazzo that was inhabited in the 16th century by Tintoretto. The intent of the founders was to preserve and spread the tradition of printmaking and to encourage this activity. The Bottega offers both yearlong and intensive courses to familiarize people with the classical techniques of etching, woodcut and lithography, as well as with experimental techniques developed during the last centuries. The Bottega is particularly suited to artists who wish to pursue their own creative research in this respect, placing at their disposal the necessary tools or the assistance of a master printer. Over the years, artists associated with the printshop have mounted exhibitions, taught related classes(drawing, sculpture, watercolour) established collaborations with international schools and artists, and founded a publishing house for children's books, Editions du Dromadaire. | A Grant Projector is a piece of equipment which projects an image up onto a glass plate, on which one places tracing paper. A focus enables the image to be enlarged or reduced. Practice enables a very accurate line drawing which is put onto one’s working surface by blue chalking the back of the tracing and going over the pencil line with a stylus. The result is a thin blue outline. This is then used as a basis to transform into form, light and shade, colour, in whatever technique one chooses. Good condition. |
